The proposed site is a complex of multifunctional buildings built between 1966 and 1972 in the central-northern part of Bucharest. Today, it is owned by the Romanian Artists Union. Initially, eighteen different technologies were used here to create artists’ works during the communist era (working with ceramics, glass, textile, metal, wood etc.). Nowadays, only few of these spaces are still working. The color manufacturing facility is one of them, alongside with some artists’ workshops who work, live and exhibit here.
The fate of the complex is subject to change. A project of cultural conversion is being developed for its transformation into an international visual arts centre. One of the indoor spaces in which there used to be a type foundry is now converted into an exhibition space (Sala Tipografia). Together with multiple exterior outdoor spaces and a large event hall, the area will become the working environment provided by the Romanian Artists Union.
